Lee County Domestic Animal Services has temporarily halted the intake of stray, community, and owner-surrendered cats due to an increase in ringworm cases among the shelter’s feline population.
This precautionary measure, announced by the county, aims to control the spread of the fungal infection and ensure the health and safety of both animals and staff. The department emphasizes its ongoing commitment to providing healthy, vaccinated cats for adoption.
In the interim, staff members are implementing enhanced safety protocols to protect themselves and other animals from exposure. The temporary suspension will allow the shelter to focus on treating affected cats while continuing to care for those exposed to the infection.
