Langkawi’s District Health Office has issued a total of 19 fines, amounting to RM1,900, to traders at Ramadan bazaars across the island since the beginning of the holy month.
Dr. Mansor Ismail, the Langkawi District Health Officer, confirmed that the fines were imposed for a range of violations, including failure to complete food handling training, improper attire, and inadequate personal hygiene.
The enforcement team conducted inspections of 209 traders across several Ramadan bazaars in Kuah, Padang Matsirat, and Ayer Hangat. Three fines were issued under Regulation 30 for the absence of food handler training, while 15 violations were noted under Regulation 32 for improper food handler attire. Additionally, one notice was issued under Regulation 33 for failure to comply with personal hygiene standards for food handlers.
Dr. Mansor also shared that, as part of the enforcement operations, 10 high-risk ready-to-eat food samples were collected from the Kuah and Ayer Hangat Ramadan bazaars for microbiological testing.
Despite the fines, Dr. Mansor emphasized that no food stalls have been shut down at any of the Ramadan bazaars so far.
