Queensland Health has issued a vital update regarding the ongoing availability of the Shingrix vaccine, utilized for herpes zoster, under the National Immunisation Program (NIP).
According to Queensland Health, the supply of NIP-funded Shingrix vaccine in Queensland will be depleted during the week of April 15th to April 19th, 2024.
This announcement follows advice from the Australian Government indicating that additional supplies of Shingrix are not anticipated until May 2024.
In response to inquiries from the Australian Medical Association (AMA) Queensland, Queensland Health has stated its commitment to collaborating with the Commonwealth on securing Shingrix supply for eligible individuals in Queensland.
In a statement provided to AMA Queensland, Queensland Health acknowledged the substantial demand observed in Queensland since Shingrix replaced Zostavax on the NIP on November 1st, 2023.
The statement expressed appreciation for the dedication of healthcare professionals in ensuring that eligible patients are offered vaccination, emphasizing gratitude for their ongoing support of the program.
