Ayesha Patrick, an advocate and mentor with the National Psoriasis Foundation, and founder of Sistas With Psoriasis, is actively raising awareness about psoriasis among women of color. Recently, she participated in AbbVie’s Clearly Me campaign, which aims to empower individuals living with psoriasis by highlighting patient stories and encouraging the use of resources available on psoriasis.com.
In a conversation with Dermatology Times, Patrick shared insights on her involvement in the campaign and her hopes for its impact.
“I’m taking ownership and making an active decision every day to live a full life,” Patrick stated. “I will not let my circumstance bring me down. I will always choose the lemonade.”
Journey to Advocacy and Collaboration
Patrick’s work with the National Psoriasis Foundation includes advocacy and one-on-one mentorship, which led to her involvement with the Clearly Me campaign. The foundation coordinated the project with her, allowing her to contribute to this empowering initiative.
Experience with Photographer Lindsay Adler
Working with photographer Lindsay Adler was a remarkable experience for Patrick. She described Adler as a considerate and inspiring professional who made her feel comfortable and confident throughout the photoshoot. “Lindsay captivated each of our individual stories visually,” Patrick said, praising Adler’s ability to bring out the best in her subjects.
Significance of the Campaign
For Patrick, participating in Clearly Me holds immense significance, especially as a Black woman living with psoriasis. She emphasized the importance of representation and access to information for people of color, who are often misdiagnosed or undiagnosed. Through this campaign, Patrick hopes to reach individuals who feel isolated and provide them with resources and community support available on psoriasis.com.
“Knowing that this campaign will help people start their journey of support is something I’m so grateful to be a part of,” she expressed.
Changing Perceptions
Patrick believes that Clearly Me has the potential to transform public perception and understanding of psoriasis. The campaign’s diversity showcases that individuals with psoriasis are living full, joyful lives, and are not defined by their condition. Patrick hopes this representation will inspire others to seek support and take control of their lives.
“I encourage anyone to use the resources available on psoriasis.com, find a dermatologist, and know that you are not alone,” Patrick advised. “Clearly Me has done an incredible job, and I can’t wait for more people to learn about the campaign.”
Ayesha Patrick’s participation in AbbVie’s Clearly Me campaign highlights the importance of advocacy, representation, and hope for the psoriasis community. Her journey and dedication serve as an inspiration for many, offering a message of empowerment and resilience.
